Music has introduced me to so many people, and every one of them has contributed something to my life. Thank you !
Influences
Tracey Braithwaite - she is talented, inspirational, beautiful, full of love and doesn’t have a bad bone in her body !
John Naismith - he never fails to amaze me with his ability to take an average lyric and make it into something special.
Kris McEwan - an absolutely under-rated talent. Multi-instrumentalist, uber-sensitive and disproportionately influential despite passing through my life for such a short period of time.
Bruce Springsteen - from the day I first heard "The River" I’ve always wanted to be able to tell a story in song like this man. And I never will, but I won’t stop trying.
Justin Currie - lead singer of Del Amitri, with an innate ability to do those break-up songs in a way that just makes you say "Oh - I remember feeling like that".
Sounds Like
ENJOY !

"..superlative examples of multi-layered, wind-in-your-hair, big-chorused anthemic AOR....great tunes, inteligent lyrics, choruses you can sing, honest believable performances and above all, soul."
- Maverick Magazine
"Their wonderful multi-layered harmonies, on-the-nail songwriting and crowd-winning vibe knocked my socks off. Fantastic!"
- Acoustic Edinburgh
Billy is a very average, but very lucky, muso from the West of Scotland. He first pleaded for a guitar whilst at secondary school and survived the fallout of the fight that ensued (mother bought it despite the adverse wishes of father ...). His first ever gig was playing, very badly, the guitar parts for some Police tracks at a school party in the late '70s... The stress was enough to put him off playing anything until nearly 20 years later when he picked up the bass to help out in the company band. The lead singer in that band, Shelley, was also a frustrated muso, and the two of them developed a songwriting partnership that lasted three years and produced a number of tracks that weren't too bad ... They also set up the leading Texas tribute band (called Southside), who worked everywhere from Aberdeen to Moscow to Livingston to Paris .... During this period fate brought Billy together with Willie Evans, who had not long taken over the management of country band Evangeline, and Billy slotted nicely in as an average (but opinionated) bass player (though he was originally meant to be the guitarist - a close call there indeed !!). Evangeline went on to become one of the leading bands in their genre in the UK, gigging throughout the UK and paying a couple of visits to the US in the process (including a gig at the legendary Bluebird Cafe in Nashville). From 2001 to 2005 Billy was fortunate to work with John Naismith and Willie Evans, both fantastic songwriters, and himself struck up a successful writing partnership with Kris McEwan - guitarist in Evangeline for a (too short) period. Kris introduced Billy to the MiracleWorkers, where he played bass for their Celtic Connections season in 2004 (see video from Barrowlands below).
One of the most fun and colourful periods of Billy's life came to an end in late 2005 when Evangeline chose to go their separate ways, but after a frustrating period of inactivity Billy and John started writing again for a new vehicle - OneDay40.
The album "Unfinished Business" was the product of this powerful songwriting partnership - recorded with top class session musicians at Glasgow's famous Park Lane studio - and the band have received rave reviews for both the CD and their performances since.
In other musical projects, Billy was business manager for Glasgow legend Horse for two years, and in his capacity as a promoter put on the first ever Proclaimers gig in Russia. He has managed the Nimmo Brothers, and for a brief spell worked with Glasgow legends Big Vern 'n' the Shootahs. He now manages Tracey Braithwaite and prolific Glasgow showband Nightshift, as well as helping setup Glasgow's new Gospel Choir - The Gospel Truth. With Tracey he co-manages fantastic new Scottish talent Maria Doherty.
OneDay40 continue to receive airplay and gig as often as they can.
Music is Billy's passion, and he is especially grateful for it introducing people like Tracey Braithwate, Kris McEwan and John Naismith into his life whilst allowing him to meet heroes like Justin Currie, KT Tunstall and the Proclaimers. Humour him, please.
Night you, Just a wee message of thanks and appreciaton for all you do. I can't wait to hear the new song ideas you come up with for Maria. Looking forward to all the dates in the team Maria, Gospel truth and Nightshift diary and more... What a great year for music, songs and gigs. Looking forward to the future and new adventures. Much love, Tx
i must admit you did all appear to be better behaved, but George needs a slap for his skittle comment about that poor girl, there was nothing wrong with her. You's def seemed to enjoy yourselves. need to come one night for a bevvy and leave the car at home.
